1. What is the initial length of the contract and is it renewable?
Each customer has individual contracts ranging from three to five years. At the end of the contract period most pilots are offered renewals or option of upgrade. We expect all our positions to provide long term employment.
2. What is the pay and benefits package?
The pay and benefit summary is provided on our website under the “Positions” tab.
3. Do I need a U.S. bank account?
It is in the best interest of all crew to establish a US Bank account as you will be paid in USD. This will help avoid bank fee’s and any delay in processing by a foreign bank.
4. If I am hired as a First Officer can I upgrade to a command position?
Yes, Air Japan has an upgrade system.
AJX and AJV plan a very aggressive program of upgrading all qualified FOs for the next few years. While CREW is not in a position to make any promises in this regard we believe that this program will result in some very attractive opportunities for pilots who wish to upgrade to Captain in a wide-body aircraft. AJX/AJV have given us the following statement of policy:
“Each AJX and AJV First Officer may expect to have an opportunity for captain upgrade training process during the initial contract period.”
CREW has enough confidence in the intentions of AJX/AJV to pass this on to you for your consideration.
5. When do you normally recruit?
Check with your recruiter for current screening dates and locations.
5. Why is the training period so long?
The first phase of your training is preparation for the aeronautical law and radio law exams. These are part of the requirement for the conversion of your license to the JCAB ATP and take approximately one month.
The second phase of training is aircraft ground school and simulator training. This portion usually takes about three to four months and is very similar to training you may have had at other carriers but not as compressed.
The third phase is actual line training and usually takes at least two months.
We provide your dependents to visit you during training on one occasion for 7 nights, however if your spouse (only) wishes to visit you on a second occasion, we will provide airfare and accommodation on a second visit up to 7 nights.
6. What about LASIK surgery?
LASIK is not an approved procedure for pilots licensed in Japan. If you have had LASIK surgery it is an automatic disqualifier for the medical license.
7. May I live in Japan?
You may legally reside in Japan if you have an appropriate Visa. ANK and ANET are company sponsored, other carriers may be an option at the crew’s expense.
